"2018 Caring for Kids"
Bring Your Own Backpack
We were heartbroken to learn recently that 45% of school children age 5 and 6 just entering school live at or bellow federal poverty levels. Morning Star wanted to do something about that.
So we partnered with Spokane Public Schools to bring Kindergarten students in ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Programs) their first-year school supplies of backpacks and gym shoes.
We hosted our first ever “Bring Your Own Backpack” to meet that need. 2018 National Teacher of the Year Mandy Manning gave an inspiring speech about the effects of poverty on education, and our community came together to help 53 children feel confident heading into their first day of school.
2017 Caring for Kids
For the 21st year in a row, Morning Star Foundation partnered with Catholic Charities of Spokane to host Caring for Kids. This unique event brings awareness to the community of the most vulnerable children and families.
Through our partnership, Caring for Kids raised money to support programs at Morning Star Boys’ Ranch & Community Services, St. Anne's Children and Family Center, CAPA/PREPARES, Food for All, Furniture Bank, Rising Strong, and St. Margaret’s Shelter. Each program received a grant to continue serving our community.
